The lug swap would be only a cosmetic change, It will not make any sound difference at all.
Picked up a Ludwig Standard Kit Today Last viewed: 16 hours ago
That is a really awesome kit. I hope you leave it original!
Man that is a cool kit. Love it. I am not aware if any issues with Standard series lugs. I think they look fairly sleek as well. I have a Standard Acrolite snare that has been used and abused since about 1972 and is now part of my rental arsenal. It has been all over the US and dozens of cruise ships and I have had no issues with it. The only mod was replacing the P83 strainer with a P86. A lot of drummers have used it and the lugs work just fine.
Very proud owner of a new Blaemire Snare 6.5 x 14 made by Jerry Jenkins "Drumjinx"
awesome kit. that Lemon Strata is awesome too!
1976 ludwig acrolite
1957 Rogers Holiday BMP snare
Great find!
Nah, don't change the lugs... from the wrap, everyone that would care would know it's a Standard kit anyway, and it will not change the sound at all. Besides, if those are the original lugs...
Also, I gig both my Standard kits with no problem at all (with original lugs). They stay in tune just like the classics.
If the hi hat stand and kick in the picture are what came with it, they look like early 'Rocker' stuff, and not original Standard equipment. Standard stands have all round bases with fold down legs.
The only thing that would have made this deal better, would have been if instead of Blue Strata, you'd found the elusive, desirable and oh so stunning Avocado Strata.
Once you've been Avocado, you can never go back... Yes Sir
Lots of standard love.I had the same kit in blue mist sparkle, and the chrome 101 snare.I should never have sold them......
Anyway..thats a great looking kit.Wait till you play them .

I like the standards, I think they look and sound great. You even got the chrome snare! Nice..
You didn't mention what you paid but what you got was essentially identical to a Ludwig Hollywood set but with different lugs and an ultra cool wrap. Don't consign it to "beater" status until you've tried it out (might be the best sounding set you own...certainly ought to be one of the best looking :) ).
The bass pedal and hi-hat stand has that cool footboard but neither of them function particularly well (at least the ones I own don't) but still cool to have. The cymbal stands are 2/3rds of a 1400 model with a different base.
They are cool sets.
There is a Standard dating guide in the works that may tell you when they were made based on the serial #. Are the interiors white or gray? The earlist ones had the white resocoat interiors and then they switched to the gray granitone (wouldn't be a bit surprised if there were some with clear interiors too knowing Ludwig).
Here's one of my two Standard sets

Nice Find Gary...They look great..especially with the hardware too. The standards really had some cool and funky colors. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for these from now on.
Thanks to all for the additional feedback! Based on the input I received, I've decided to keep the original Standard lugs on all the shells.
fishwaltz: Thanks for the information regarding the hi-hat stand. I appreciate it!
K.O.: Thanks for sharing the clip of your lemon strata kit. It's a beauty!
