I think Bill Ward used his WMP 3ply Slingerlands very early on till around 74 when he started adding various other drums to the original 4pc set. I believe it was a 24,13,16 or a 22,12,16 with a matching snare drum. Sometime in the early 70s he switched out the Slingerland SD for a Ludwig chrome supra. All of his famous early work was on those Slingerlands tuned Jazz high and just a small 4pc set.

I read an interview with Bill and he mentioned that he used to go to pawn shops in the U.S. in the seventies, and buy cymbals,he said he found lots of them in Memphis TN,he liked old Zil A's from the 40's and 50's

I saw Black Sabbath in a small arena in 1972. I was amazed at their and Bill Ward's minimalist setup and the power they generate. It must have been the "dark forces" at work.

From memory the drum set was a 22 BD and a basic 4 pc. kit. He sat very low with big cyms. Compared to other bands of the time, they looked like your local frat band setup. Close to each other in the middle of a bare stage. They all just kinda rocked back and forth with none of the stage dramatics one might expect. Bill kept his head down the whole set.

A week or so late ELP played the same arena and their setup was huge. I had never seen any band with a big drum setup like Carl Palmer. 2 gongs if I remember........yeah 2.

Ta for that mates! :), i'm/we're going to be covering OZZY ERA SABBATH ONLY!.So i'm more interested in Bill Wards drum equipment/gear then Vinny Appice's, i know where i can buy some SuperZyn cymbals from &i've got a 10 12 14&20" Sleishman kit with a Premier Olympic SS 5.5".I'll either add a 16" tom so it'll be 12 14&16" &20" &get a Sleishman alloy 5" .Do you think original 60s-70s Paiste GB's will be better then SuperZyns?.
