Bass Drum Hoop Protection? Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Loading...

So, I have some freshly painted hoops. The last thing I want to do, is chew them all up with my bass pedals.

What do you all use as protection on your hoops? Mapex offers some nice strips that stick on the hoop, but they only come with the drums and aren't sold separately with them!

Ideas?

Thanks,

Kevin

Gibraltar has stick on rubber pieces available that are made for that purpose.

I like the Pearl protector. Guitar Center usually has them on the rack; bent metal, a stick on rough plastic strip, a hole and a screw. It goes on, protects the finish, and all that's bothering is the tiny hole for the screw. An upgrade, and since it won't be taken off, you never have to worry about that little screw hole.

I use the little felt strips that you can place on the bottom of furniture to protect wood floors. You can buy long strips of the stuff at Home Depot. It sticks right onto the hoop or you can place them on the bass pedal itself. I imagine if you removed the strip after some time it might remove some paint however. But it protects the hoop from scratches.

I use these as well but have found that the adhesive is less than stellar. I generally apply a piece of double sided carpet tape to held them in place.

I just clamp on the pedal. That's what the hoops are for. I am careful to use the same spot for the pedal. Doesn't leave that much of a mark.

I've been using one of these corrugated rubber strips for years, excellent hoop protection:

I use a light cardboard matchbook cover folded for double thickness. Biodegradable (lol), cheap, and plentiful. If I run out, I still have my selective service draft card.

I seem to use a lot of hoop mounted items. I too don't like the marks on my hoops and especially if ive just redone a set. I buy the large squares of moleskin pads. they have adhesive backing. I cut them and adhere them to the item where it would touch the hoop. seems to last forever. I use it on my pedals,cowbell/woodblock mounts, bass anchor, tom clipper mount, etc.
