Where are Ludwig USA metal snares made?

From clubdate64

This is such bull! I hate that I don't even have the option to buy anything made in the United States. Remember even made in America can be twisted Mexico, Canada, brazil are all in "America" but not the United States. The auto makers pull this crap too with " North American plant"... in Canada.I sell bicycles, not a single bike is from this country. The big U.S. manufacturers Trek, Specialized, Cannondale. all the frames are made in china, with shimano "Japanese" components made in Malaysia, Michelin "French" tires made in Taiwan. The Italians and Germans are the only ones that still make their own product.Working in retail is becoming one of the most prideless jobs around. I sell foreign product to Americans so I can get paid us money to spend on foreign product. The only things I buy USA are used (my truck, car and drums) that doesn't help this country. We are nothing but middlemen.I so wanted to buy a new Ludwig set, the more research I do the less likely its becoming. It's just sad, and depressing.

Last time I checked Canada was still in North America....though maybe I didn't get the memo!

Steve my comment about The EPA and OSHA was to the fact that not much metal fabrication takes place in the good ole US of A any longer.

Very true. Not so much the fabrication but it's the reason that it's not so easy to find a shop that does plating anymore. Be it chrome, nickel, gold, whatever. Many of them got tired of the draconian regulations and inspections.

Believe it or else!

Yes I know, no offense to anyone from another country. what I was hinting at is that the term American does not mean the United States.

A person could be from Guatamala and be an American, more specifically they would be Central American.

Pacific by DW at one point said made in Baja California. Which is in Mexico, an educated person knows this, but most 'mericans would say " it says California right on it, California ain't in Mexico!"

Slightly deceptive.

By the way, I do appreciate that the shells are made here, but none of the metal parts are made here? For shame.

But at the same time I guess if it was made here each drum would run about $1000.

I saw in the news the other day a couple built a house completely from USA made materials. The house cost roughly twice as much.

I like Drums...

1976 Ludwig Vistalite clear
1981 Gretsch SSB Gran Prix Rosewood
1987 Yamaha Turbo Tour Custom Mellow Yellow
1991 Pearl Export Ferrari Red

It is probably more USA American to buy a "designer" set from a company like Anchor than the big L-American shells, American finishing, American shop, etc...This may or may not be accurate, just a "probable". Here is a question-is it even POSSIBLE to purchase or construct an ENTIRELY AMERICAN-USA drumset? Are any stands or pedals made here? You know, folks, that this line of thought is entirely of our own making. If you see an item for a dollar that is WORTH a dollar next to an item that costs a dollar that's WORTH five, most of us are eventually going to try the five dollar valued item-I dissed Tama for so long, playing my Gretsch set on the road while the "Monster" pedal disintegrated in 2 nights, the floor tom legs constantly loosened and fell over and the 12" mounted tom was warped and untunable. Now in 2013 I play an '83 Superstar with none of the issues mentioned.

MATES!, I honestly DONT know why you yanks are whinging about kits NOT made in America or hardware! :(.Here "down under" we've GOT NO CHOICE but to buy imported complete kits, cymbals&hardware, skins&sticks! :(.With the exception of Brady, Capricorn, Dee Jay, Metro, &Mastro&Spirit. The OTHER "Aussie" drum manufactuers use imported Keller shells or import other 'exotic" shells, i DONT know where they(aussie drum manufactuers) source there plating from or lugs, washers, tension rods, etc.99.9% of ALL products sold 'down under" are imported from China now even cars! (Great Wall).Ford are to stop making the falcon in 2016, &GMH(General Motors Holden) after the current model Commodore (VF) are NO LONGER going to make it here! :(.Mitsubishi stopped making cars here a few years ago Nissan did over 20+ yrs ago!.BOTH the unions &previous¤t governments have sold off our assets&manufactuers off-shore because of labour costs taxes&tarriffs.WE DONT even have a "level" playing field with your country!, nor with Japan!, we can't export cars to Japan(Toyota)! :(.In MY industry (bearings), the introduction of synthetic rubber&greases&oils&hub bearing assemblies(instead of tapered roller bearings being fotted into the hub i.e.cup&cone on the assy line). They now use a hub with the bearing assy integral (part of the hub which is 1pc),what does this mean for my industry?, well parts DONT require both greasing &or replacing &the service intervals mean we don't sell oil anymore nor do we do servicing!.We DO however cater for the vintage classic enthusiast&restorer which DONT require the use of both synthetic greases&oils&the parts wear out!.

I personally don't care where stuff is made.I have My Tama Superstars from 77 and the're great drums,on par with anything out there.Made in Japan, but made well.

The problem I have is disclosure. If a drum or hardware is imported, then say so and don't skirt the issue.I know some of the wood shells sold by Ludwig are made here in the U.S..

My gripe is if the metal shells are made over seas, then say so.If the flagship(black beauty) of the Ludwig snare drum line is made in China or Taiwan and only assembled here,be honest about it and don't charge me 700 bucks for a drum that under a different name sells for 300 bucks.

Ludwig has made great strides in the past few years and it would be a shame to overshadow that progress with dishonest claims as to the true origin of their products.

My name is Tom and I agree with the preceding message. Don't NOT be forthcoming with info , don't put a L""""" USA badge on an Asian drum. I haven't noticed any L""""" company rep's chiming in here. If you ignore it, it will eventually go away-

Ludwig's seamless shells - the brass Black Beauty & COB Supra, bronze, and Supra/Acrolite - are made in the U.S., thought not at Monroe. They're outsourced (as they have been for decades) but I forget the name of the company. Not common knowledge, though not hard to find.

Believe me, if the seamless shells and U.S. staples like the Legacy, Classic Maple and Keystone lines ever come from China or Taiwan, I and plenty of other endorsers will jump ship. I don't have a problem with Asian drums, but if I want to play them, I will endorse the appropriate brand, not a U.S.-branded version.
