From an interview when Ed Shaughnessy was he was 80 years old....
“Look,” concludes Shaughnessy, “the first thing that goes for a drummer—and for a bass player, too—are the fast tempos. But I tell myself that’ll never happen to me, because I practice those tempos every day with those play-along recordings—‘Cherokee’ at high speed, things like that. You know, I can do things this year I couldn’t do last year. And I’m gonna keep doing what I’m doing until I get it right. And, of course, there’s always one more thing to get right.”
What a tremendous outlook!
I had just read about this and posted it in the General Questions sections. Glad to see it in this section.
I was fortunate to see/hear him at a clinic at Hannich Music in West Covina many years ago. A truly wonderful person and fantastic drummer.
We'll miss you, Ed.

I did a search on google to find out if his passing was true. No "news" sites hand anything posted until today. I guess it's like what Buddy said about him and Frank.
How sad, RIP Ed. I echo tamadrm in feelings. We were blessed to have experienced such great talents in our lives.
I had the pleasure of watching Mr S do his thing while standing right behind him as he kicked the Tonight Show Band at a private party complete with Johnny Carson as the MC.
One incredible night!
