Is this kit legit? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

I could really use some help. I have the chance to buy some Ludwig Rockers that are in great shape. I started playing in the 80s and would like to have a clean set for the good memories. I'm not really looking for opinions on Rockers in general, I want to figure out if this kit has been way modified. As I looked at the details on this set I began to get concerned. I don’t need to be a super-purist but I could use some answers (input other than directly to my questions is welcome too). Why does only the small tom have a serial number on the badge? Is the central tom mount Ludwig or a retrofit? Are the bass drum spurs a retrofit? Why are the vents/badges on the bass-mounted toms located under the mounting system? Thanks in advance for the help! I’ve been going in circles looking at the B/W badge info, etc. I can buy this kit for $500 along with hardware, snare (Pearl) and Zildjian Custom A cymbals, but I want a real Ludwig Rockers kit.

I couldn't get my detail pictures to load so here is the listing:

I think they are of the Rocker II series, made in Taiwan, possible from the 90's.

Well the black and white badge along with the rounded style lugs indicate they are Rockers. What gets me is the tom post and mount looks very much like Pearl. I have never seen that type of tom mount system on any Ludwig drum set, dosent mean ther are not any though.

Thanks for the input. Stallwart, I was thinking the imported drums had the red Rockers script on the black background. Maybe that's not universal? No offense to anyone but I am looking for a set of Rockers made in the USA. Already have a TAMA 7 piece kit that I like a lot.

jccabinets, thanks for grabbing the photo of the tom mount. That is what I'm looking for and the fact that none of the drums (except for the small tom) have serial numbers. And the bass mounted toms seem to have the badges in the wrong location. Any thoughts?

Ludwig used that Peral type of mount on the Rockers2 drums made in the 90;s M.I.T....The 80's rockers would have the black and white badge 4 ply maple shells with the Ludwig classic tom mount as posted. The inside of the i of the shells could be clear or would have the black and white sparkle paint inside....Mikey

My red ones are Rocker 2 Ludwigs, made in USA. The badges have serial numbers and say Ludwig USA. If yours do not have serial numbers and no USA printed on the badge then I would stay away from them.

Oh, and mine have the granitone interiors.

Jc has it correct. Rockers and rocker II sets were made in USA in the early 80's shells on rocker II's were the superclassic factory seconds (bad wood grain ) so they wrapped them and sprayed "granitone" inside, put "standard" lugs on them.

I also believe they had Taiwanese hoops, tension rods and screws. But the shells were made in the USA.

Question, do the hoops on your set have Taiwan stamped into them?

Also, do the tension rods have a concave tip? My rocker II does.

Thank you, I bought them from little brother about 12 years ago. Some guys say they are not collectable or desirable but I dont care. They sound good to my ears and you know what, in ten years they will be collectable. I was going to re wrap them in veneer two years ago but changed my mind.

Thanks again, WW3,lol!
