Mattacks was the drummer for Fairport Convention! Folk-rock, remember that one? Dave plays a funky rhythm on this one. Get ready to climb into the Way-Back Machine!

Wow, Dave Mattacks!

That guy's a bit of an unsung hero.

Along with so much else he's done, he's on Chris Rea's stuff and also "Nonesuch" by XTC, one of my favorite XTC albums.

Good on ya, bud. I'd've loved to have seen that. He's pretty much a jazz guy these days, I believe. I remember hearing about how he used to get crap from guys sometimes because he'd put pressed hoops on his Gretsch drums back in the day.

How'd his kit sound? Yamahas?

He was talking about how drums project better if tuned higher and he used his Yamahas (which sounded fantastic) vs. a stock kit to demonstrate. Also told anecdotes of hanging out with Bonham. He lives here on the North Shore of Boston and is quite active! Very inspirational man!

Dave Mattacks is the man. He's got several videos on YouTube. Yeah, he's been living in Boston for quite some time, and is very active in the music scene. Totally agree that his playing on XTC's Nonesuch is exquisite. Has one of the best pockets you're likely to hear. Great drummer.

Huge XTC fan here - love his work on Nonsuch. He nailed the feel on every number......and he didn't even need to use as many snares as Pat Mastelotto on the proceeding album, Oranges and Lemons!

The guy who cut a bunch of edges for me (here in MI) got a call from him once...(this was his childhood idol!) and he actually didn't believe it, until Dave proved himself. Apparently Dave had seen/played one of his custom snares and wanted him to build one for him (which he did). Dave was reaching around to the other side of the world to get the sound he wanted. I think he knows what he is doing when selecting and tuning for specific needs of his clients......and XTC knew what they were doing when they selected him!

Loved the video BTW - such the cool casual one! Kinks in his neck after the show? Can't loose those glasses! Love the single stroke rolls!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Here is my Michigan DM story..

Dave hooked me up to see him at Soaring Eagle casiNO maybe 10 years ago with Mary Chapin Carpenter.

He wanted to see some K.Zildjians I had...you know, the ones with the crescent moon by the star logo?

Great show.....afterwards, he buys a K.from me....

So,on the drive home,we looked up ,and the (crescent) moon was right by a star, just like on the cymbal!

In my whole life ,I don't recall ever seeing it like that!..Very strange!Mind Blowi

Stayed like that for around 15-20 minutes....
