1930's 12 by 26 Slingerland bd.... Last viewed: 6 hours ago

JUST did a trade with a guy for this drum...

He said it was a 14 by 26,but it measured 12"......

I did a trade to the tune of $200 for it,with the option of reversing the deal if people felt its not cool....

Sounds good and booming though just hitting it...

What do you all think?

It is single tension,Mahogony outter / inner,no extra holes and has the early flat timpani handles with the big S on them.......

Almost new Remo Ambassador and quite nice Emperor on it.....

Cool old bass drums are rather common around my parts (NYC), so unless it was purchased to match other drums or I'm extremely happy with the sound of it, I'd want my $200 in stuff back. Unless the stuff you traded was actually worthless to you, then SCORE for you.

The 12X26 is the period correct BD size from the 20s to early 30s. If you are trying to build a dixieland/trad drum kit that's a good start. Most of those 12 inch deep bass drums are virgin for several reasons. They usually hung Chinese toms from the BD hoop with primitive hook and hanger hardware and they also doubled as a marching BD. I'm guessing that you thought that it was the Krupa/Rich classic BD size 14X26. IMHO, unless I'm going for the trad "outfit", I'd want my money back.

Actually, bass drums with the 12" depth were either Scotch marching drums or lower line drums. 14" depth was the standard in the 20's-30's.

Drum is single tension,so,lower line, obviously

I thought Scotch were 6"-8"?
