Yes SirHi guys, just joined this cool site, just thought some of you may be interested to look at my FULLY restored Radio King Slingerland kit which I purchased in 1963. Just completed a full restoration, drum wrap, re-chromed,and sadly replaced most of the hardware with Yamaha, This is not the latest photo, as the kit now sports a " Rims " system on Yamaha YESS holders. Yes I know but just wanted to get the very best out of this amazing sounding kit.It has travelled thousands of miles, recorded in Abbey Road, recorded a Beatles track on it in 1964, appeared on Top of The Pops, ready steady go, Thank your lucky Stars, Cracker Jack, Juke Box Jury etc," all UK programs, Keith Moon "borrowed the kit at Demfort Hall Leicester uk when I was on a short tour with " Tom Jones, Marianne Faithfull, Tommy Quickly, and The Who. Needless to say the Loon broke the both pedals when his kit (Premier ) failed to turn up on time, He paid me for the damage to the tune of over £400, a small fortune then.

The Kit was originally a 4 piece 13,16 x 16, 22 x 14, + S.D ( 14 x 5 ). I have since added a original 1963 12" tom, I still have the Gene Krupa snare but have to confess of using my amazing 1964 Ludwig Supraphonic 400 shell with baseball damper & P83 snare strainer, it will blow most out of the water and STILL retains that magic 400 sound which in my opinion nobody will ever match in my life time, but there are some very good Snares out there both wood & steel and not forgetting Brass.

The last photo of me on the kit (4 Pc) is almost a duplicate pose of a shot of me taken in 1964 at Abbey Road Studio's, London UK, as in my profile photo, note the basic cymbal set up and the time gap between shots, almost 50 yrs between shots WITH THE SAME WORKING DRUM KIT, YES !!!!

cool history to your kit as well! Its great you have kept it alive rather than replacing it with something new...

Hey buddy, thanks for your nice comments, This kit is " My Baby " and I will never part with her, I owe her far to much to part company. I have been given a few kits over the years including a Yamaha 9000 RC in Cobalt blue fade, which was amazing both live & in the studio but sadly (regret) I sold it it a few years ago, The bass drum and tom kicked arse for sure with plent of volume to match, but I guess The Slingerlands are a true part of me FOR EVER while the lord keeps blessing me LOL !!!.

What a beautiful kit! Thanks for sharing the pics and the story behind the drums. I find that stuff just as entertaining as seeing the pictures.

Cobalt blue fade?!?! I have never seen it! Do you have pictures by chance? I thought my straight cobalt blue drums were a rare color... (D R O O L)

Hi Buddy, Looks like I mislead you a little, my kit was a Blue Burst 25th Anninversary kit 8,10,12,14,20, with a Vinnie Coli SD 14 x 5. I only have a poor photo of a close up of the BD I will try to send .

Oh, OK. I think I've seen that- blue wood stain in the middle fading to black on both ends right?

Have you sen the 30th purple sparkle fade? I'm not a purple fan, but it is pretty sick looking...
