Hi! New here and looking for advice on a 1965 Slingerland kit Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

Hi! I have a kit that I played when I was younger that I am looking to sell. I bought it when I was 13...47 now. Since I never made it as a rock star, and due to work and family commitments, I havent played in a long time.

The kit is a 1965 Slingerland, red sparkle. All hardware is original. There are two 12" mounted toms, a 16" floor tom, and 22" base drum. Ride cymbal and stand are original as is hi-hat and throne. Crash cymbal cracked years ago so I bought a new one and new stand. The strap on the original kick pedal snapped, so I had to but a new one, but I still have the original pedal.

I've seen similar vintage kits online going for anywhere from $1,200 - 1,800. Does this price range sound right? Also, if anyone is interested or if you know where I can list it for sale other than ebay, craigslist, etc., please let me know.

thanks for your advice!

Steve

If those are vintage Zildjian cymbals, then they alone would fetch a nice price. Those tubs are in pretty bad shape missing hoops and pitted hardware. You might get 400 tops for them.

Did you paint the inside of the bass drum black?

Your bass drum is a 14x20. Check that floor tom, as it really looks like a 14x14. Your kit is the Modern Solo 2R, and was cataloged with a 14x20, two 8x12 rack toms, 16x16 floor tom and a COB Sound King 5x14 snare drum. Your snare is the Hollywood Ace in matching sparkle finish. Anyway, check that floor tom again for the correct size.

As to value, just the drums, in the condition they're in, might go for $500 - $800. However, if the floor tom is a 14x14, you might get a bit more. Everything really depends on condition... of everything from the chrome to the wood.

I think idrum4fun was right on the money. Slingerland kits are really undervalued, even though they sound fantastic. Although you will see asking prices topping $1200 on Ebay sometimes, the actual ones that sell go for far lower. Typically, $500-800 is the norm with condition dictating higher prices.

If you were to part out the drums you might do a bit better, but its sad to break up an old kit thats been together as long as yours. The Hollywood Ace snare you have sells in the range of $100-250. 16 inch floor toms from $150-300, mounted toms can be had for about $80-125.

Good luck!

I agree with the 400-600 estimate. They are not in the best condition, and there's parts that are missing like the front bass drum hoop, and T-rods,and the bottom floor tom hoop and tension rods. The inside of the bass drum is painted black, and some of the hardware in non original.I believe it is a 14x20.

Are you sure about the size of the floor tom, because it looks like a 14x14 to me.The snare I think is 6 lugs and is a Deluxe Student model, and that kit should have come with a Sound King COB snare.

To be honest,if it were a different finish, and in excellent condition it might fetch 1000--1200,but to expect that with your kit is expecting too much.

Hi Steve. You can list the drums here for sale in the classifieds. If you add your location to your profile you might even find a local buyer who's a member. If your looking for a quick sale sell them as is. But I think if you spent some time cleaning them up and adding the missing parts you might fare a little better. Guys here are right on prices, sadly Slingerland drums seem to be in the lower end price wise. Good for a buyer, bad for a seller. If it's not worth it to sell them you can always hang onto them. Or start playing again when you find the time. Perhaps your children might have a interest down the road? Anyway best of luck on your venture! ;)

I have the same kit in silver sparkle, 1964 with additional floor tom, I paid $500 for mine but no missing parts and in good shape.

My opinion, $600 on a good day, for everything!

You would be best off selling the cymbals separate if you want to maximize your profit.

Good luck

I should have looked closer... the snare drum is a 6-lug! Still, I really think the floor tom is a 14x14.

As previously mentioned, more money can be made by parting it out, only if the floor tom is a 14. Still, it would be a shame to break the kit up. I know I wouldn't!
