Dave is undoubtedly amazing. When the song "Rumble" came out on the first Electric Band CD, it seemed as though we had turned another corner in the evolution of the art of drumming. Certainly a master at his craft. I watch his videos on YouTube and find it amazing at how well everything is thought out, how completely musical it sounds and how effortlessly he performs it. That's just an entirely different level of playing.

He makes me want to burn my gear. "Hard Wired" and "Master Plan" are great records. Love the music and his playing. I should just sell my Gretsch kit and buy a "First Act" kit, for all the good I'm doing with the Gretsch.

You know, whenever I hear that, I just remind guys that Dave can only sit behind one kit at a time. All the other gigs are still open.

The reality is that it is a very small percentage of players that could ever earn a living playing at that level and even they only get to do that a percentage of the time. Not that we shouldn't all aspire to develop that kind of musical vocabulary behind a kit, but the vast majority of professional drummers in the world are still hired to make two and four feel really good. After we play our two's and four's we can then go home with a paycheck and dream about how cool it would be to be as good as Dave.

The akoustic Band's "Alive" is in constant rotation and in the car CD player right now...

I saw him in New York playing with Oz Noy and that was a KILLER gig. Check out Oz if you get a chance (although he often records with Anton Fig- also a serious player in my opinion, but very different style).

He inspired me to change the arrangement of my drums actually. I used to play 8-10 up over the high-hat, 12 on the left bass, 13-15 on the right bass 16-18 on the floor. (a traditional set-up I guess)

Now I play 8-10-12 up on one bass (with a double pedal) 13-15 'floor' toms and the 16 or 18 on the left (a couple extra drums now). I like this arrangement a lot, and changing the placement of the drums actually opens up a bunch of new playing ideas to flow. (I think they call this a fusion set-up, but fusion has been around a lot longer than this arrangement of drums!)

I am currently looking into a second 4-piece kit (12-14-20) so I can go between the two kits. If I do that my drum room will be very tight, but also very fun! Walking

I am torn between vintage Rogers, more recording custom drums, or the Yamaha Stage Custom all-birch kit. This last option is some SERIOUS bang for the buck... And a good option for the working drummer. They sound great with just about any head (except the taiwan Remo heads that come on it), have the YESS mounts and clean, small lugs. Made in taiwan I think, but the shells look just like the RC shells...

I attended his clinic at a local Phoenix HS auditorium way back in '97 and his passion and expertice said it all.I STILL couldnt play as good as him the next day!?!

I'm one for sure..
