garage find while on tour!

Loading...

So I just came home from our 5th (yes 5th) 2+ week tour this year. I have been all over the country and have yet to find something really cool at a pawn shop, antique store, etc. Well we usually stay with people whenever we can to save on hotels and lookie what was in a garage in Nashville!

Kits in great shape. Needs some hoops, I have the kick hoops and t-rods/claws. Cleaned up a part of the kick and it looks great. I have been looking for a 2nd vintage kit so that I can quit touring on my Mod Orange kit. So here's my dilemma - Not a huge Black Panther fan but I do know that they can be very desirable. Do I clean it - sell it - and get a different one? Or should I keep it and tour on a unique set of Ludwigs?

Oh also, all drums are dated SEPT 11th 1970. Look forward to any feedback! :D

If its not your cup of tea sell it and get something you want. You've got a unique kit with the mod orange kit. I would hate to see that black panther finsh get messed up on tour. Great find! Congrats.

+1 on that....Black Panther is not extremely durable and would require extra care on the road. If you are the only one handling them and KNOW how they will be handled during transport, then go for it! However, with that said, if you are thinking of selling, send me a PM......one can never have enough Ludwigs in Black Panther around this household! Jump For Joy :D

make sure that there is nothing under the black panther. several of the exotic finishes that didnt sell were recovered in black panther before ludwig sold them. i apologize if you already knew all of this!

congrats on the score...

Oh god! For the gazillionth time! That is a myth! It has occurred once or twice in all of Ludwig history! Search the forum for my "Black Panther thread" before "peeking" for something else more "rare" and hideous underneath! The only way to do that is to destroy the current finish......do not, I repeat, DO NOT bother to look! My quite old by now thread explains all there is to know about Ludwig's black panther finish.........

Sorry, but you're wrong! It happens often enough for CIB to take a peek. Just last year a good buddy of mine (at DFO) found a Orange Mod kit hiding under a Black Panther finish.

Well worth a look. And Mike is absolutely correct. It is not 'myth' but fairly well-known that, Ludwig used a bunch of shells that had finishes that weren't selling at the time to make the early Panther kits. Check your Ludwig history...

Too many great drums to list here!

hey-i aint knocking black panther. i dig it. but that myth theory is a myth itself. i know of several kits that had rarities underneath. and the great thing is that the wrap would be pristine because its been covered all this time.

sure, it doesnt happen all the time. its kinda like buying a lottery ticket. sometimes you hit it, not all of the time. you dont have to damage them to check it either. just be careful.
