Big R Rogers Dynasonic...

As some of you are aware, I'm NOT much of a Rogers expert.

But, a friend of mine approached me with a "Big R" Dynasonic 5.5x14 COS(?) snare drum last night in what I would say is 9-out-of-10 condition. It has the serial number and "USA" on the big badge, so from what I can tell out of the Rogers Book it was made between 1976 and 1980.

I searched eBay's "completed listings" for similar drums last night, and found a few but the selling price varied quite a bit... as low as under $100 to a little over $300.

What's this thing worth?

And sorry, no, at this time no pics...

All Dynasonics are Chrome over Brass. The steel shell is the Super Ten. If you Dynasonic is complete with rail and all original parts, I would put it at $225.00-$300.00. I am being generous with the $300.00, as I sold a Oval Badge Dyna all original to another member here for $315.00.

They're a great snare drum too.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Well, it definately is worth more if you are the seller than if you are the buyer. LoLoLoLo

Big R sell for less than Script badge, though they are the same shell. Slightly different hardware. If he wants to sell to you, offer him $250-250.

Big R 5 x14, complete parts wise, 9 condition wise, I agree 250.00 300.00 I sold my 1976 for 275.00. Good drum to have if you want/need a COB, tuned and set up right they are good all purpose drums IMO.

Post a serial number, I can give you a year. It is important to know if the serial prefix is D or RD.... that does make a difference. Is the throw off knob top and dampener knob top smooth or rough with a rivet? Does the drum have a five digit number with the badge one panel to the right of the throw off? A five digit number with the badge two panels to the left of the throw off and NO Dampener? or a six digit number?

Dynasonics are 5 inch or 6.5 inch (which get more money), Chrome over Brass. 250 to 300 if the snare frame is present in top condition... 8.5-10.

I don't have the drum in my possession, so I can't answer most of your questions. I'll have to see if I can get some pictures. However, I do have the serial number: D27225.

I believe your drum will be as follows.......

Early 1976. Smooth top throw off knob, no dampener, badge two panels to the left of the throw off in the Big R period location. This is a second transition Big R Dynasonic. First Transition Big R Dynasonic drums had the Big R badge in the old Oval Badge location, covering the two small holes that held the Oval Badge attaching screws, first panel to the right of the throw off. These were Oval Badge prepped shells used until the first run of Big R shells arrived. Numbers through high 14,000 range.
