Green Vistalite Snare

Loading...

I have a green Ludwig Vistalite snare which I have owned since 1974. It's the thinner snare drum. I ordered it directly from the factory, so I've been the only owner. I sold the rest of the kit some time ago, but kept the snare. It has the supersensitive jazz tension snare on the bottom. Any ideas on the value? Thanks!

Vistalite prices have taken a nose dive as of late. After a big spike in interest after the reissues were released in 2000-2001, the buzz over the vintage stuff was killed along with the economy.

That being said, your drum is rare. Not only is it green (by far the hardest single color of the vintage Vistalites to find), but you do not see many Super Sensitive Vista snares around, period.

My conservative, ballpark, shot-in-the-dark number would be $500 if it is in really nice condition, but if you came back and told me it sold for $700, I wouldn't be surprised. There is a standard 6.5x14 green Vista snare on eBay with a starting price of $775, but with things being the way they are right now, I think that is overpriced. That one has the advantage of being deeper, but yours has the advantage of being a Super Sensitive.

The other thing you need to consider is that Vista snares are not very popular sound-wise. That is also going to keep the price down a bit.

WOW! Awesome drum. I love vistalites. They can sound good if you use the right heads and tune them right.

[QUOTE=rogersfreek;184448]I was never aware that a vistalite super sensitive was made. I own 2 metal-shelled supers, one is mid 60's and the other is 1972.

Like the green vistas.

Now thats a rare snare. The color being a S.S .Ludwig did not make alot of these in S.S most had the P-85 strainer .In 35+ years in dealing in vintage drums i have only seen a few of these in clear and yellow was the colors never seen a green one.If the drum has no cracks ete.I would say start at 500.00 and see were the bidding goes.Iam thinking 700.00+....Mikey
