Slingerland Assistance Please-football badge set- Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Hi gang, need some help here.

Over x-mas a relative informed me he has a slingerland set he needed to sell. Excited

Of course I asked for pics, well today I got them. x-mas3

Appears to be a 2 up, 2 down, C.O.W. kit that is missing its snare :(

However, it comes with cymbals, stands, thrones, etc AND hard cases. Excited

Looking at the badges they appear to be 73-86 Football badges with Serial No. in the 321 or 324 range.

My questions:

in some pics they look chrome in others they look gold, was gold 'o' wood an option?

Whats market value for these? I dont see many COW kits for sale.

Im actually in a spot financially to pounce on these, are they worth it?

I do have pics, however I'd rather not re-host and post.

If any of you can provide some help, I can forward the email to you for your input.

Thanks gang!

In 1973 they offered copper-over-wood. It is one of the all time most desirable finishes in all of drumdom. The finish was discontinued after only a year. It's hard to maintain, scratches easilly, and constantly tarnishes. But when it's clean and well cared for, it's spectacular. I'd sell my left nut for a copper-over-wood Slingerland... almost.

Some people like Broccoli and Brussels Sprouts. And, some people like concert toms. My take on the drums is that, if they are inexpensive enough, and you like them, go for it. I love Slingerland drums (with two drum heads).

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

lol

I've never had a concert tom kit, if the price is right I may try it out.

Worst case scenario I try it, If I dont dig it, I'll sell it off after keeping the cases, cymbals and misc goodies.

Since COW kits are so rare, any ideas on value for this thing?

Those are definitely chrome-over-wood.

My guess is that it's missing it's proper floor time. The set would have originally come with a 6-1/2" x 14" COB snare and probably a 18" double headead floor tom. Because of the concert toms, it's not worth too much. Chrome is a great finish and the drums are super heavy. Not many guys want single headed toms tho. Cool in a mid 70's, New York studio, drums sounding like shoe boxes sort of way. I have a similar set in black but with a virgin bass drum and the 4 toms on stands. Mine has an 18" floor tom and 5-ply shells.

EDIT: I see it does have the floor tom. Cool beans. I'd LOVE to get my hands on that floor tom. I've got a COW 16" and 20" on my Jazz Rock 57N kit. BTW, that's a not so subtle hint if you decide to part it out (which would make you (or your relative) a lot more money). Let me know.

As you noted it does have the floor tom, but I do not see a snare.
