Looks to be real, but I don't know. The Cadillac Green Gretschs are a rare beast, and I doubt many people have personal experience with them, or at least enough to know how to spot a fake. For me, I see:

1. Cadillac Green finish? Check!

2. Gold hardware? Check!

3. Gretsch round badge? Check!

...without further and in-person examination, I wouldn't be able to tell if it's real or fake.

There IS a local guy I know who took in his Gretsch round badge kit to an automobile shop and had the shell painted exactly to the Cadillac Green specs. It looks GREAT! I forget if he had the hardware gold-plated, because I didn't know enough at the time I saw the kit to know that they came with gold-plated hardware.

Thanks for this.

As an aside I'm trying to have a drum painted Cadi Green and as far as I know it's in the process of being done (LangPercussion - Brooklyn N.Y.) but it was a bear to track down a paint code. I thought it'd be easy because I painted a wall in my drum room Gretsch Harlequin Gold/dark brown and all I did was take the Glossy Gretsch catalog with the photo on the back and have Home Depot match it in their computer......they did a fine job!

I'm following the auction........and it's a 9x13 not a 10x13 as advertised in by the seller. No biggie though....who's going to argue over an inch.....it's good enough for the galls I hang with.

Oh how I would love to endorse Gretsch because that is the finish I would ask for for my custom USA kit. That look is so classy. Perfect to me...

I don't know....the hardware looks painted to me, not plated. I mean, if it were plated, it have a sheen to it, this looks like someone took a rattler and sprayed flat gold on the hardware. It may have been someone with a C/G tom with chrome or nickel and needed gold to match a kit, but I would P/M Curroto and ash him to have a look at it. This just don't look right to my eyes. Now, I'm no Gretsch expert, but I certainly know what plated vs painted looks like, and that looks like flat gold paint to me.

I hear you Jonni.

It does look suspicious...........but at the same time it still is one nice drum even without the real gold.

It probably is a Gretsch, with a bad paint job. I can see a few runs in the finish. A DIY finish. Offer $75, it's going to take $150 just to get it stripped and re-wrapped. Hope the inside doesn't look like the outside.

The auction is already over $200. I think it's a nice enough drum to pay at least that. It will be interesting to see what the drum is like in real life.....If someone here wins it hopefully that info will be posted on the Forum.

I just can't see anyone faking that paint job.

And - I like THIS colour more than the original Cadillac Green personally.

I may be naive and have some wishfull thinking but my vote is that the drum is genuine and has been ridden hard and neglected. It is a Gretsch 50's 3ply 9x13 tom and if it is an original Cadillac paint job.....it is a rare and sought after drum. There were some with chrome hardware back in the day......maybe someone painted the chrome Gold??

Mysterious drum from this prospective (not being able to handle and inspect it).
