once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Dang! I've been buying/collecting/hoarding/whatever for 7 years now, and I *might* have that much invested. I've definitely spent AT LEAST that much, and sold much of it for bigger, better things. I don't just use drums, though. I also play guitar and bass, have a PA system, recording studio...my 5 octave marimba was $9000, and my timpani cost me $1800, so I have $10k+ spent on classical percussion instruments alone. Geez...when I start adding it all up in my head, I might have a heart attack! My wife would, for sure.
What's that, dear? Oh, um, nothing...I'm just, um, checking Facebook...
1965 Ludwig Hollywood
1970 Ludwig Jazzette
It could be best summed up as......"A Butt Load"

I've gotten crazy good deals on all my stuff. In addition to drums, I'm into a lot of other instruments ans records as well. Actually, I have nearly 30 vintage keyboards including electric pianos, organs, analogue synthesizers, and a Mellotron. I got good deals on everything. Any instrument at a good deal is a good buy. I keep my drum collection pretty much just of the Slingerland variety. I did pick up a Ludwig glockenspiel with case and stand for $25 yesterday, tho.

That's my pace for the last 3 years......
hmmm, well not including heads and stick I've bought over the years. But my cymbals, hardware, current drum heads, and building my vistalites... Probably about 3500 or so on my main kit.
Only have 2 kits, and my other kit is only worth about 500 or so.
But I'm sure I've spent at least 7000 altogether in my life on drums.... But I'm only 22 years old :P
