Interesting.

I worked with alot of masonite back in the 70's.

Just trying to figure out how they joined the seam.

I see the waffle texture on the inside. Yes i can see where it would be heavier

Just wondering if any of the paint by chance has been scratched down to the outer surface.

If it would have a masonite exterior the surface would be hard as a rock.

Hard to ding or dent.

This is so interesting. Even tough masonite has a very hard surface it is very flexable as far as bending it into a round shape.

Learned something new again about Slingerland.

Thanks V2000

Joe

From vintagemore2000

Ok, I put modern heads on this Slingerland Masonite bass drum,I used a powerstroke 3 on the back and ambassador on the front both white coated moongel on the front head only.WOW!! not what I was expecting at all, it's more Ludwig sounding than Slingerland sounding, it has more power and projection than a normal 3 ply slingerland shell normally produces!! I have owned a few Danelectro Guitars that are also made out of Masonite, so I knew what to expect sound wise, but this was a very pleasant surprise!

Wow, Thats the first one of these drums i have seen...By the way on Danelectro Guitars,i had one years ago sold it to a vintage guitar collecter friend for 500.00 he still plays it in the studio today one of many guitars he has in his collection of about 3000 of them...Oh i don't know the model but it was one that the case was the amp....Mikey
