Hello drum aficionados and friends!

i'm new to this forum and require some confirmation with regards to a set of Ludwig Psychedelic Red wrapped drums that i bought recently.

Now i've noticed that my set have a slightly different finish to many of the classic keystone and early seventies badged sets i've seen sell on ebay, mine looks more swirly, more 'psychedelic' i suppose, and less grainy. my question is, did Ludwig change the nature of the wrap around the mid seventies? or have i just happened upon a very convincing fake set? the serial numbers seem to match up and they sound beautiful, i'm just not sure!

any help and needless extra info would be very helpful indeed.

ALSO, if anyone has any Ludwig toms with this specific wrap adorned then i would like to know about it as they seem harder to find than the 'classic' psych red.

The kit in the picture is an authentic 'Psych red' set for sure. Those wraps were all slightly unique so some were more swirly than others. be aware that the greens in that finish will fade in the presence of UV light so to have a set with a lot of green still intact is a very good thing!

Yeh those loads of green left, appears to have been no fade at all, which is partly why i thought it might've been a modern re-wrap job. glad it's not though, thanks for confirming!

stuck another picture up, looks like a 'psych green' kit from some angles. i'm keeping them covered, though.

Cool wrap! It looks like the bass hoop inlays are the 60s version. A 9x13 tom in your version recently sold on eBay.

Ludwig, in fact, did obtain different swirl patterns after the first few years of this finish. Lots of green in yours! Protect them and keep them out of UV exposure. I don't often see many Psych Red kits with this much green! A great kit you've got there. Enjoy it!

Here's my re-wrap (ala Jack Lawton) 1920's Ludwig snare with that 70's Psych Red wrap! This solid 1ply shell came to me naked and I wanted a Psych Red snare of some sort...so this is what I came up with. Outfitted with repro tube lugs, vintage straight hoops 'Ludwig Pioneer' engraved, J. Lawton clips, 60's Ludwig snare butt and throw (couldn't find originals and yes, a couple extra holes drilled and filled to accommodate), small knob muffler, bearing edges re-cut to the new Ludwig style (rough shape originally) and snare beds widened. And yes, possibly for sale lol!

I do have too a psych red, and I get that strange thing (beside - not mounted on my basdrum) that is mounted on your basdrum ( you see it best on second pic). It look like some kind of cymbalholder, but what do those two metall things for, with a hole in the middle

On your set it mounted in the middle of the basdrum, as some kind of tomholder...?

Yeh the clip mount it pretty annoying as all other ludwig toms seem to have the nice mounts with the ludwig name on. i'm assuming it was the cheap alternative?
