HELP! Lost my Vintage Rogers in flood! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I recently lost my 76-77 vintage 5 piece Rogers drumset, in a flood. I'm having trouble trying to determine replacement value for insurance purposes. I've had these drums since I was a child. They are a 5-piece black XP8, and they were still in great condition. I had no reason or desire to replace them until they were destroyed in the flood. Any input on value of these drums would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

They don't go for much (comparatively speaking), so you might want to check eBay completed auctions and get an idea of the current going rate. Sorry to hear of your loss. Replacement rates will most assuredly depress you.

76-77 arent XP8 drums. Those came out in 1979.

Sizes, and any pics of them if you have would be helpful.

Ebay ended auctions are going to set your value mostly. 500-1000 for drums alone. + value for hardware. + 275-350 for Dynasonic 5x14 +100-150 if dynasonic is 6.5. High values assume excellent condition.

Unless the flood waters washed the hardware away, I figured this was just a shell pack inquiry. However, if the flood waters had a high salinity, then I could see replacement. Also, if the flood waters contained any sort of chemical waste runoff, that would require replacent. Oh, and what if there were large squid that latched onto the stands and bent them beyond recognition! That would be wicked! Hey, what about those huge ship props. Those can do serious damage if they run over a stand. There was a large fish that swallowed Jonah when he refused to go to Ninevah. That was wild. You don't live near Palistine, do you? CRABS!!! Dude, some of those can snap your finger clean off! I saw these Metal Munching Moon Men on Rocky and Bullwinkle. Those guys had it bad for steel. Whatever happened to that Pierce Brosnan guy anyway?

So, that should get your VCR up and running. If you have any more difficulty, just ask. That's what we're here for.

Whether this request for help is legitimate or bogus (as the previous poster is intimating), I suggest that we all chronicle our drums in photos accompanied by detailed descriptions and estimated HIGH DOLLAR replacement value. I recommend the high dollar replacement value assuming that any possible replacement of similar drums would have to come from an A-1 source such as Maxwell, Bennett, Bobby Chiasson, or the like. I have completed my chronicling of the drums. I now need to do the same for my cymbals and collectible hardware and pedals. I plan to dump the pictures and descriptions to a CD as well as print it out. I will give one copy of the completed list to my insurance agent to have the collection added to my homeowner's insurance policy. All of my stuff is from pre 1972 vintage. I would also recommend this plan for non vintage possessions.

If the shells are water logged get the hardware off FAST and spray it down or submerge it in WD-40. Especially the inside hardware. It rusts faster than chrome. The hardware can be saved if you haven't let it rust since the flood. 76-77 shells (Rogers) weren't their best (not XP8) and you can find shells to recover pretty cheap. It won't be original but playable. You might even find shells from that era with good wrap. You aren't going to get much from the insurance company, they are just old drums to them. Good luck! Send some pictures so we can all feel extra sorry for you. Sorry for your loss, I know it feels like a family member is gone. I'm still looking for my first drum set that was "lost".

What really will tell the story is written in your insurance contract. Most

people do not read their policies, until they actually need to. Usually there

are exclusions and maximums stated in the policy. Hopefully, you will be

able to negotiate the final settlement, if you feel you deserve more. It's

all based on your policy. This is why I cringe when I hear fellow drummers

storing their gear in the basement, for example.

I honestly wasn't intimating anything. I was just being goofy and unpredictable. It's a stream of consciousness comedic pause for the cause. Nothing more.
