Looking for Kent "Red Oyster Pearl" info Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Hey, I'm a new guy here... I'm currently trying to recreate/reproduce this wrap for a kit I'm building. Unfortunately, I don't have a drum with it to use as a good reference. I have some decent photos from Cooper's Vintage Drums site... but nothing close up. I would love to buy a snare... or whatever drum is available to have as a reference. But, I haven't been able to find one. I would even love to just scan or photograph one close up... if even see one first hand. If anyone has one and would be willing to at least talk to me or answer some questions about that wrap that would be great!

Thanks, Frank

That wrap was only used by Kent, how do you plan to reproduce it?

Yes, I know I paid a few dollars more than it was probably worth... Although a few others bid in the $70s before I did... I won by 50 cents... haha. So it's worth over 70 to 3-4 others too. So I paid $15-$25 over... bah! who cares. ;)

This drum was worth more to me than the going rate because I need it to use a reference for the wrap so I can see it first hand to recreate it. I may also scan it.

Well, I've contacted just about everyone I can think of or know to contact. I'm working with someone who works closely with Delmar and we have a plan. Obviously it is far too expensive to actually try and recreate it with Acetate, etc. for just a few sheets for one drum set. I'm an illustrator, so I will try to come as close as I can through custom printing a color and textures over a ripple or oyster backing. I'm waiting for test prints to come back right now... but here was the first 8X10 graphic I created using just photographs as reference. Now that I will have an actual drum to look at, I will tweak this image to get even closer. (looks like I could add some more white/cream)

Or I may see the real drum and decide that I like my test prints better than the original... or not.. haha.
