Rims mounting system for 5 lug tom?

I have a new (old) 1950s gretsch 3 ply kit (in copper mist lacquer) 12/14/20 with matching snare. I can't play a kit that uses a rail consolette and rod and tongue mounting apparatus unless the rail is on top of the drum and I use an extended rod and tongue. I have another Gretsch kit with a 12" 5 lug tom and the Pearl ISS system works fine because it grabs the rim and not the tension rods. The new Pearl suspension system for a 12" tom cannot seperate wide enough to be compatible with a 5 lug drum (only 6). The ISS system will not work with a 1950s Gretsch stick chopper hoop (nothing to grab on the rim). So who has experience with using a rims style mount on a 5 lug drum (other than Pearl products)? Can you give me a brand to check out?

I'm going threw the same thing with 11" Leedy and Ludwig&Ludwig you would think they would make a R I M S mount for concert toms the 12" has 5 lug If anyone has any info please let me know Best Wishes to all This is my first posting 11" toms rule ------------------------ James

Short of going through all of the headache and expense of looking for months, have you tried a concert snare stand? They reach higher than a normal snare stand, and if you get a decent quality one, it will have lots of adjustability.

The only other thing I can suggest is to start making rounds of the music stores, drum in hand, and go the old trial and error route.

My catalina jazz kit has their own version of a rims mount which goes with their five lug 12" tom. Maybe you can get one from Gretsch.

Early on Purecussion did make 12" RIMS mounts for five-luggers--I have one on my Gretsch tom. As noted in the other posts, if you want to engage in an extended online auction search you will probably find one eventually.

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:

The new Guager RIMS mounts are available for 5 lug drums. A little pricy but they should work.

I, too have a 12" 5-lug tom. Gibralter make a rims mount for these, as I

wanted to update my 66 Gretsch 12" and 13" toms, without using the old

style mounts. it works well. You'll need a tom mount that will attach to

the rims mount. Got min from Woodwind and Brasswind, Southbend, Ind.

i have one of these for my 11x13" 8 lug ludwig 6 ply power tom. its a heavy drum, and at first I was worried about the universal mount being so puny, but it has worked great!
