My buddy just gave me back my 70's acrolite and it sounds like Ringo's snare on the white album. Real nice!

Sonically or cosmetically? :p

Sonically. they are the same. Cosmetically....they all look good with the "natural"/annodized finish in my book.....the later grey painted version....eh.

Well....they all sound the same, no matter what era you go for...go for what looks best to you, one in complete condition, and one that is reasonable priced to your liking. :D

You didn't ask for this era but the 90's and present heavy coated grey and the blackrolites are a good deal dryer sounding than the era you've asked about 60's and 70's acro's due to the coating.

I am after the more open sound, the wide tuning range and the John Bonham sound without getting a 6.5" chrome supra.
