1967 Ludwig Black Laquer Club Date

Loading...

Came across this kit in a Kijiji deal about 4 years ago. Kit was found all together in an upstairs room .

When I first saw it, I knew it was a good find! All the parts were there down to the factory bags for the drum key and hex wrench. The Black Laquer finish is excellent for all three shells, badges tight and right and in sequence with the January 1967 date stamps. Even the Acrolite was in sequence with the kit! All original heads are there too. Check out the catalog pic showing the same kit as offered!

It included the original Paiste crash and hi-hats, spur-lock hi-hat stand, bass ride-cymbal stand, floor cymbal stand, (not pictured) Speed-Master pedal, wood block/cow bell holder, spring-design stick holder and brushes. The coolest part was the red vinyl stool. the only thing missing was one of the 20" hoops. I have found a replacement though.

I finally got around last week to taking it all apart and polishing the chrome which has no pitting anywhere except on a few of the Acrolite lugs but only minor. Just about have it all back together. When it's all set up I will post more picks.

That's the way I dream of finding one, all complete and original. My first vintage Ludwig kit had all its original hardware and cymbals. That's a beauty. Can't wait to see the pics of the set complete.

Don't think I ever got so excited about a kit before, especially after looking at the catalog page. Having both the hex key bag and the drum key bag together...what are the odds of that after 45 years?! Go figure :)

I learned on a Ludwig black lacquer kit, I have a soft spot in my heart for them. Can't wait to see that one put back together. Beautiful drums, classy.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Good eye Marko! the hoop in the photo is from a 1969 "Silverstar" premier kit that was restored about five years ago. I still have it with the hoops off the bass. Well, while moving to our new place, parts got put here 'an there and everywhere :) I threw the Premier hoop on the Ludwig for a quick photo!

Here's pics of the real deal with the more narrow Ludwig Club Date 20" hoop beside the newly painted "blue" hoop. As mentioned previously, I'm missing one hoop. Found an old blue coloured hoop in storage and painted it black lacquer yesterday. I need to let it dry and set for a few days before applying silver tape. I'm thinking of cutting some Mylar I have from another project for the inlay and using double-sided tape for adhesive. What do you think John and others who may have replaced silver inlay? I know I can cut the Mylar to the exact width.
