Pearl Drum Set Covered In White Leather

Loading...

Hi! I'm looking at a buying a drum set. It's a Pearl set (I normally stick to Ludwig) and it's covered in white leather. Did it come that way? It's just the drums 12/13/16/22 and a metal snare for $150. I just thought it was cool. Is that a good deal? Thanks for any information you can share.

Julia, post some pictures please. Sounds like a good deal, but pics first.

Thank you!

So Julia, this will make what, your third set? I don't think spending $150 on any vintage set in good, playable condition is unreasonable, but is this Pearl set vintage? I've never heard of any Pearl being available in a leather finish, but I can tell you that lots of us did some crazy drum covering/wraps when we were your age. I recovered MIJ sets in denim, black leather, contact paper, and black velvet. You might want to find out what the original wrap is under the white leather.

What are the shell sizes? The floor tom looks bigger than 16" and the bass drum looks bigger than 22". Could be the camera angle.

Julia,

I was wrong about that being a rewrap. Evidently Peal did make that white leatherette finish available in the late '70s (see wrap chart below). You might have a rare wrap there. The set looks like it has all the hoops, rods, and heads, and looks almost ready to play. I'd pick that up for $150, definitely.

Now here's the dilemma - when do we stop buying drum kits for $150? That's a price that's hard to pass up for something decent. A slippery slope I guess.

This kit reminds me of the Slingerland denim thing. Pretty funny. Stone washed shells..?
