Selling Slingerland Epic hi-hat stand

Loading...

Hi all,

I'm not a drummer so I don't know anything about this, but if someone is willing to help advise me and suggest a fair price, I have Slingerland Epic hi-hat stand available. It was given to me from a neighbor cleaning house a couple years ago, and I'm never going to do anything with it.

It's the full stand, in decent mechanical condition but definitely needs a good cleaning/buffing to make it work more smoothly. It has all the parts, including the cymbals. I was just taking the cymbals off to make hand-cymbals for my kids, when I thought I should check online and see if the stand had any value before I got rid of it. Glad I did, apparently it's fairly old (1930s-1940s?) and I hope someone would enjoy having it.

I'm going to try attach a picture of the base to this post, just FYI. On the back of the pedal is imprinted "EPIC 1".

I joined this forum after googling around, just in hopes someone can tell me more about it. And as I said, if someone wants to make an offer for it, or let me know what it's worth, feel free to email me (or private message? not sure how this works). I was going to put it on eBay but thought y'all might appreciate it more?

This is great, thanks for the info and links to recent eBay postings. Maybe I will just post it there. (Mine seems to be in noticeably better shape than the ones shown there.)

Yours looks nicer too, I noticed the "feet" on yours compared to the ones on ebay look nicer.

Thanks.

Does this signature on the inside of one of the cymbals mean anything? (See attached picture)

You should really post some pictures of the "stamps" on the cymbals, they may be worth far more than the stand.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ok, attached are two pictures of the stamps on the cymbals. One says "Avedis Zildjian Co., Turkish Cymbals, Made in USA" with a Turkish or Arabic word/symbol. The second cymbal just has a one word stamp "Alejian".

Do these stamps mean anything interesting? Also, any idea what that black signature means (picture is in my last post)? Is that a brand of some sort, or is it just some person writing on the cymbal?

Thanks a ton, this is really interesting to learn about.

This is from the vintage cymbal guide under the forum header. I don't know the history but hopefully someone can tell you more.

Those old catalog pictures are really interesting - thanks for pointing that out! So Alejian is a sub-brand of Zildjian.

Someone pointed out elsewhere that the black signature under the bell of the A. Zildjian may be the signature of the person who made it? That's pretty wild.

I found some timelines of Zildjian stamps, and my stamp appears identical to both an early 20s-30s stamp and a 70s stamp (at first glance). My Slingerman hihat peddle seems an older style, so...maybe 1930s?

Fun stuff... thanks for the leads.

Found some more info, pretty definitive, I think I have a 1930s A. Zildjian 12" cymbal. (On an old Slingerland hihat stand with an Alejian second cymbal).

This page was the jackpot:

http://robscott.net/cymbals/a-zildjian/

And this page helped a lot too:

http://www.hidehitters.com/cymbals/Zildjianstamps/timeline.html

So I have the same "first stamp" circa 1929-1939, with the Turkish lettering stamped as described on robscott.net. My signature under the bell is nearly identical to what he believes is a "stylized writing of Avedis Zildjian” (his words), as he shows in his 3rd picture.

The HideHitters site describes a "less rounded J" in the 1929-1939 series stamp, which matches the J on my cymbal.

So again, very cool, digging into this history...thanks for sharing it with me.
