Leedy Snare?

Loading...

Hello I recentlly picked up a snare which I belive is a leedy how ever Im not 100 percent sure as there are a few strange things, I was wondering if any one could help I.D. the snare and a ballpark in age and worth. PLease say so if you need more pictures.

I'm in the middle of cleaing it up so i thought this would be a goog time to take close ups of the parts, so if some look pretty bad you know why. O and I know WMP can't really be cleaned but I was wondering if there is anyway to take of the sorta "haze" it has, I have no probllem with the yellowing, Im just afraid the haze is from the UV Rays and has been damaged.

Well anyways, Its a 8 lug snare, mahogany shell with I think maple rings only few numbers in the shell. Pretty sure its has "stick saver hoops" and the throw off would be correct as well during the leedy/slingerland merger. However the lugs look very leedy but I can not find a exact lug anywere that looks like it. There is no keystone badge of anysort and appears to never have had one, no sundamg or spotting and no imprints in the shell or wrap.

The shell looks like Luan Mahogany, used in Asian drums. It does, however, look like a fairly old copy drum, & will look pretty cool when assembled.

Sure looks like an old MIJ to me. That grain is a pretty good indication.

well thanks guys , I would have to say that is a 1961 Star snare. So would these more or less considered a Pre-tama slingerland ripoff vs a " Diecast Rim Tama" Any of you guys have a idea of a price on this? Im just wondering I picked it up for 30 at a yard sale.

I see two different hoops too !! The muffler knob scrapes the sleve, and leedy lugs had a flat face with a horizontal crip in the center plus two crimps on the sides.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

This will be a very cool snare, w/ a decent voice, & well worth what you paid.
