80's Drouyn Kit

These are my pride and joy! 24 x 19. 14 x 10 and 16 x 16 8ply Rose Alder shells.
They have an awsome rock sound. This is one of the last "custom" kits they produced before shutting the doors.

Ah - makes me homesick. Visited the factory somewhere out in the wilds of Brisbane once about 1982. When did they actually close the doors 'cause this comes up as a question in here once in a while.

I think they stopped producing Drouyn drums in about '89-'90. They kept making shells for Slieshman for a couple of years after that.
The factory is still their in Stones Corner and legend has it all the old toolig equipment and a lot of stock is still in the place. I have left numerous messages on the answering machine over the years with no reply... it's a mystery?

My father was taught by the foreman at drouyn drums in the 60's. He spent much time in the factory as a kid, sweeping up woods chips and the like.

A search I did for drouyn on the web last night led me to the thoughts of setting up a site about drouyn drums, using my dad's memorys for much of the info.

By fluke he called me tonight. He has been in touch with Doug Drouyn's daughter and is going to catch up with her in the near future. I'm hoping she will help with info regarding the company and family for a website. She even remembers a specific kit that was shipped to my dad when he was living in townsville in the late 1960's.

I've just got my hands on my first drouyn kit and can't wait to do it up.

hi there, I am also keen to researach more about the hstory of drouyn/dandy drums.

I have a 1960's DANDY catalogue and an older pre-1960's tube lug dandy snare drum so far.

There's been a few Drouyn kits on Oz Ebay over the last year. Not st stupid prices like the current one, but I'm still not interested in paying $1500 for a recovered example.

A while back there was a Dandy kit that came up, twice. Stupidly I didn't bit as I wasn't keen on the 4 hour drive to Cooms to pick it up. Eventually sold for $200 (includes a stash of unknon old cymbals). I should have, should have just bought them.
I do have a Dandy kit circa 1960. 28" bass drum (calf heads) although the lugs are quite different than the rest of the kit. There's a 14"tom and snare.

The snare is to my ears fantastic and weighs a ton.
