Hey--real quick. Im sure you have heard me ramble on alot about my 68 green sparkle 6lug snare slinger..ive only asked like 20 questions about it haha. Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew what the pros and cons are for using a modern strainer as opposed to the vintage rapid. --functionality only! no value or anything. Also--if going the modern route is ok, can I just go to a local guitar center and match up a gibralter or something? Thanks for the help! ps. (id like to use the snare cord as opposed to the plastic tabs)

The Rapid tends to loosen up tension, especially if that rubber gasket thing is worn or gone. There are a bunch of replacement throw offs (like the Ludwig P-85) that use the same hole spacing, so you don't have to drill to replace the strainer. (Just don't lose the rapid strainer.)
