Haven't had a chance to try them yet but with the new top and bottom heads I put on to replace the thirty-plus year old Evans hydraulics (over Remo muffles) that were paired with old (original?) reso heads with 6" holes cut out in the centers, they will inevitably sound "better".

Nice Kevin! A free snare drum sounds good. How do you hide drums from your wife?

What`s that ring around the reso head,...we had a long debate about Bonham having that same thing.

Do you mean on that last picture of the bass drum with the new head? That's an Attack no resonance head which is essentially the same thing as a Remo PS3 it has the internal extra ring of mylar along the edge to muffle the overtones.

I have so many drums around the house that a few more don't really get noticed although with the finish on these she's probably going to be asking "when did you get those"?

"when did you get those"?

Response: "A few years ago. I'm surprised you don't remember them with such an eye-catching finish."

Put the stink right on her. Better she wonders if she has early onset altzheimer's than you getting busted for buying that kit with the rent money!

Yes That`s what I speak of.

I went through umpteen pages trying to convince the other posters that Bonham didn`t use a muffler ring.

Now I`m convinced that`s what Bonham had, as for the make, Don`t know, but I can clearly see that`s what he did to his reso.

Wont take anything else for an answer, even from Jason.

Heads like this did not exist as an available product at that time. I don't really know that much about Bonham's equipment (well I know a fair amount but it's not something I've investigated deeply) so I don't know about the heads you're talking about but if he had an inner muffling ring on his reso head it most likely would have been something that he or his drum tech cooked up on their own.

Finally had a chance to pound on these a bit and they sound really good. Had to do a bit of tweaking (factory tension rods on the 12" batter side were too long and ran out of threads before I had as much tension on the head as I wanted so I had to substitute some shorter ones...vintage Ludwig ones of course). Other than that these are very nice. I'm sure to be using them for a gig soon...
