Default 1941 Ludwig and Ludwig

Just picked up this 1941 Ludwig and Ludwig Standard snare with gold hardware. The drum is out of my knowledge base and I could use some input as to originality and how to clean without destroying it.

Looks pretty clean. I honestly can't tell if the finish is original or not....but if it is, then just a slightly damp cloth should be fine for maintenance.

I wouldn't change the patina of the hardware. That took years to get! Some people like everything all shiny...but...like I say....

It seems to be missing the muffling device (the three holes). I would like to see more pictures with close ups and interior shots.

Nice shoe lace for the snare wires, btw! I've done that old trick many times when on the road....heh heh

Great drum.
It is missing the muffler, right?
I have some Ludwig and Ludwig 1940's mufflers in Nickel or Chrome
that are for sale.
But I do not have ANY in the art gold.
Let me know if you want to purchase a muffler to fill those holes sir.
Thanks

Definitely the paint was removed. missing its tone control, fantastic sounding snare drums.

That drum should have had a wrap. At one point the badge was most likely removed when they took the wrap off. Also it was reinstalled upside down. The badge should be the white enamel L&L. The drum was called NEW STANDARD "Controlled Response" Extension-Type Snare Strainer. It features a 3 position throw. That strainer was used for a short time before and after WWII. They are incredible sounding snare drums. I own two. One of the two is played 2-3 per week in my snare rotation. That would make a fantastic player to keep in your rotation.

Forgot to mention that it appears whoever had the drum before you stripped the nickel plating off of the hoops and lugs.

Here's my 1941 Ludwig & Ludwig Standard snare, dated Oct. '41
The snares on my are not original but the rest of the drum is (excluding heads).
Fantastic snare drum, as I'm sure you know from playing on that one!

Thanks to several knowledgeable, and well respected, collectors this drum has been identified as a 1946-48 Deluxe Standard model originally finished in White Lacquer, and outfitted with Art Gold hardware.
I will be returning the shell to a white laquer finish, and re-installing the untouched art gold hardware.

Thanks again to those who have taught me so much!
