Default What the hell did I buy

I picked this snare up this week with a bunch of orphan toms that were rewraped to match. This thing has 12 lugs on the batter side and 6 lugs on the snare side. The lugs are solid and the threds are all tapped. There is some sort of canvis fabric covering the inner shell. I think the strainer has been replaced.

That looks like some kind of Euro drum, but I can't be sure. It does look altered.

Very interesting! Honestly, I've never seen anything like this. I hope someone can shed some light on this drum!

Slingerland had a 2 for 1 Chrome Brass Snare Drum Shell 6.5x14 with 12 lugs top, 6 lugs bottom.

Way different than what you have, but same lug idea. Have a feeling yours is someone's custom bastardized snare.

Bustedhead! I believe you are correct! Here is the 4-page catalog I found over at drumarchive.com.

Catalog numer 30x and called the "2 to 1" Tension Snare Drum. The strainer on your drum may be a replacement or just an alternate that was used. Still, a rare drum and a cool piece of percussion history!

Yup, Frank Wolf 2 to 1 snare drum. I recently did a small transaction with this guy, who owns a few of these snares. He may be able to shed a little more light on the company if you'd like to reach out to him:

The Frank Wolf company was founded in 1910 in New York, as Bustedhead stated above. I agree that this is probably 1930s or 1940s. I guess these instruments are quite rare, so that's a really nice score - congrats!

Thank you I contacted the guy and he was very knowledgeable on Frank Wolf drums. He even wants to make a deal on it.
