Just picked up a 14x12 marching drum and am beginning to break it down for inspection.

From my experience these old British made drums are built miles better than most of the US gear. I'm talking about the quality of materials esp the metal stuff. I,ve never seen anything as good.

German for sure!!..My only 2 kits are Sonor and Premier!..Both equally perfect!

If Sonor are making their Force line in Asia somewhere, are they referred to as "Germanese"?

I have a Carlton “King” NOB 14 x 6.5 snare that was dated on this forum to 1939. It truly is a wonderful drum. I have owned it since 1981, it is my first ever drum and the one that I have held on to and will honestly never sell. I can’t say the same about any other piece of kit, including old K’s. I can attest to the top quality sound and construction. I hadn’t played it for quite some time, but recently have done so and my Slingerland has been demoted...! The original hoops are badly bent, so I had to buy some replacements a few years back. I’m hoping that I can get the original hoops sorted and the drum properly serviced by the great Eddie Ryan here in England. I keep looking at getting a new modern metal snare (VK Drums specifically), but then I play the Carlton and think “why bother...”!
