Sounds great with hands or sticks...I'm mainly using stick on them.

I just replaced/replacing the heads on my modern Meinl free ride series bongos. They're apparently the industry standard sizes of 7"-8". The music shop i bought the heads from gave me the smallest head that Remo makes, which is 7.15, and it didn't fit. The 8" however, snapped on perfectly. I also never understood the whole bong diameter thing, and don't know why it's like that. The shop is replacing my Nuskyn 7.15" with a Gon Bops 7" , which is actually cheaper, and similar to the Nuskyn by Remo. The original Meinl heads are calf, and personally, sound much better to my ears. A lot more attack and "snap", but the upside to the Remo synthetic heads is that they'll never go out of tune, and will last much much longer. Glad you found the heads you needed !

cheers,
Rob

Just an update that the heads/bongos are sounding great!

Man I love my MIJ kits! I was in a big box store recently and sat down behind a couple of new kits and played around some on each and within seconds I was unimpressed(with the drums in particular). I thought to myself that I couldn't wait to get back home to my own kits. Maybe it was the tunings, or heads Etc. I guess I've just become accustomed to my own setup? I really need to experience a good set of drums so I can gauge what's going on in my studio.
