I like reading the freakout posts. They're hilarious. They sound like they're gonna cry if you don't split up the kit.

Regarding the export fees, etc- hopefully a foreign buyer would go through a 3rd party buyer/shipper on ebay that handled all that. The good part is that you're only responsible for getting the item safely to the shipper in the U.S., The shipper is the actual buyer as far as ebay and paypal are concerned. Anyway, good luck.

At $14,000 US, I think the export fees are the least of the buyers concerns.

Speaking of hilarious, the asking price, duration of this sale, etc, is "hilarious".

I'm certainly enjoying the show, though lol.(puts feet back up)

I hear ya. It's one thing to discuss prices as we are now, and it's another thing for a buyer to outright insult the seller and probably not a good way to negotiate.

Though not quite the same scenario, it reminds me of when I had a drum for sale on ebay. A potential buyer, or tire kicker, sent some condescending messages alluding to my price being too high, but while he was sending messages someone had already bought and paid for the drum at the asking price. That also happened with a drum kit I had.

I think you have misunderstood the export certification required for the rosewood. I believe this is a CITES treaty issue and arises where certain materials (not just wood but also turtle shell and ivory and other materials) require certification before they can cross international boundaries. In case you think this is a joke check this out.

and consider what happened to somebody here in NZ when he imported a piano with ivory keys which was clearly old enough to be ok, but arrived with the "wrong paperwork".

Dang, that would make things more difficult for a seller of rosewood.

Wow, I hadn't heard of the CITES treaty before. So not only does that make it more complicated and expensive for the seller, but it also becomes a huge consideration for the buyer. Even if the seller provides all documentation and certification, if the buyer decides to resell at some point, they may also face the same expenses and complications, as well as the same uncertainty from potential buyers. I wonder how that will affect the value of affected instruments going forward....
