Super B: thank you kind sir, really it started with hearing this story from the old blues drummers doing it to their cymbals, as they would say to get um to sound real good, that's a quote, I asked them how did they do it, the reply was dig a hole put em in the ground cover um up, wait a spell, then dig um up, not very scientific i know, but i had the sabian 16" HH med thin w/brilliant finish on it, i loved this cymbal, but it had to many highs, this was one of the buyout cymbals that i had purchased and was the only one, so it became the test subject, i am a long time not so modern drummer guy and got a lot of help from buds in that community, and that's how it began, the end.

I know this post is very old but I was curious if the op actually buried the cymbal and what the results were? I had some extra cymbals laying around and figured I would try the "myth" to see what the results were since I wasn't using the cymbals anyway. I will find out in a month or two when I did them back up if it worked or not

Cymbals left buried too long have been known to grow cymbal trees.
