But since owning a drum like this i appreciate the level to which premier and ludwig plus all the others went to in the early days. I will be doing a sound file of this remarkable drum once assembled. It will be posted on VDF first as i know that all the true drum collectors etc hang out......sean
PS The pics show the backing screws with original loc washers all were rusty but now woooow. The tissue has some wd40 on it as i sparayed them. The lugs some slightly pitted with bubble chrome. The brass inserts and springs all original. Great craftsmanship.
You should wrap felt paper around those springs. It helps the vibrations and squeaks.

Yes each wire is spring loaded at each end. So once you get tension it flows evenly across the head. All the wires auto tension. Too expensive to produce a drum like this today. All of the modern drums just look the same with zero style etc etc. A lot of drum companys mentioning no name think they are at the front of all the new ideas. Everything these drum companies do today was done back in the 30's/40's. All you buy today is a badge.

The Premier Dominion snare drum is completely finished full pics of this truly fantastic all original 1930's Made in England snare drum coming soon. Not often you get a complete one as most are missing wires or internal workings. This one is the complete deal.......Thanks....sean

Aces ! My goodness - what a drum!

I wonder, with something good, if re-chroming would kill it's value or raise it? Probably kill it, but I'd love to see this thing when "new". Then again, I like a drum with history.

Anyhow, lovely piece of work and a FABULOUS restore!

Hi Doug....I was tempted to have hoops lugs and every part re chromed but i like the original wear and tear plus dulling of the chrome. Bit like an old drum ripping the yellowed wrap off for new. Anyway its staying as is i like a drum with wear and tear especially from 1930's.

The drum is very beautiful, an interesting solution is the spring-loaded upper and lower membranes. A lot of work has been done to restore this rarity. My congratulations to Sean! I'm interested here is the question, was it in the 1930s that plastic was put on and not the calfskin?
