1972 Slingerland 5" x 14" Sound King snare drum
I am the original owner of this Slingerland snare drum. I used this until I acquired my first kit four or five years later, and it has sit in a case ever since.
It's in good condition, with original everything, including the heads. At least I have no recollection of ever replacing the heads, but hey, I was 12 at the time. Here's the ad on Ebay. Asking $200 plus $20 shipping. Including an old beat up snare case. |

Actually most likely '69. Looks pretty nice. GLWS.

Re: 1972 Slingerland 5" x 14" Sound King snare drum
I would agree with a 1969. IMHO, these brass shells, with round-over edges and aluminum lug backing plates, are the best version of the GK Sound King snare drum. Add in COB hoops, which your drum most likely has, and you have a really great snare drum. The 70-71 snares are almost the same, but have COS hoops. Still great snare drums!
The only real issue with these Zoomatic strainers would be the lack of the rubber washer between the knob and strainer body. After all these decades, these gum rubber washers dry out, crack and eventually disintegrate, leaving lots of slop in the back/forth movement of the strainer. I'm doing a rebuild of my Zoomatic in another thread. -Mark Last edited by idrum4fun; 06-17-2019 at 02:39 PM. |

Re: 1972 Slingerland 5" x 14" Sound King snare drum
Thanks for the information guys. My parents bought this for me when I was 12, and I assumed it was new. Now I'm glad it wasn't!
Does 69 vs 72 change the value? |

Personally I agree with Mark, but I'm not sure that translates to any appreciable "real world" price difference.

Thanks for the info. I'm leaving the price the same to give someone a better deal, if it's a better drum. I appreciate the info.
Still $200! |
