Nahh...My drum teacher set me straight on the good path telling me that i should learn to walk before trying to run. My posture was wrong, the way i held my sticks was less than ideal so i started from square 1 with him. He told me what to listen to, gave me the book "stick control" and a pile of Jazz vinyls. All that time i thought that i was the best because i could play LOVE GUN in it's entirety with bad timing and way too loud. He did change my drumming life and because of that, i earned a living doing what i loved.

I was taught traditional (with no options!) and so that is my natural go-to. Every now and again I'll flip to matched if it's straight ahead four-on-the-floor but my comfort zone for jazz, blues and any shuffle is traditional.

I play both. Usually it is whatever feels more comfortable playing the song. My band plays a very eclectic mix of music, which varies greatly from song to song within the set lists.
I seem to get a lot of comments asking about playing traditional grip from non-drummers.
