Default Another Ludwig ID + Repairs

Hi all,

I just got my teenage drums back to me after 14 years (neighbours you know...). Anyways they are vintage Ludwigs we got for cheap a while back and are in pretty bad shape. I would like to try and figure out what and when they are from if possible and also how I could fix them up a bit.

So here are the details:
8"x 12" SN: 1 138 541
9"x 13" SN: 1 142 330
16"x 16" SN: 1 139 103
14"x 22" BD, SN: 1 138 569
They have WMP (yellowed) outer finish and granitone interior finish. I don't know how to identify the wood they are made of, I was told they are maple. They all had internal mufflers at one point, now only the 8x12 tom has it.

For the repairs, I would just like them to be playable for now, so not looking to recondition them to their former glory. Here are the 2 main problems:
- Missing the tom post. I have the double tom holder, but the post is nowhere to be found. Could any 1" pipe do the job for now? Is the double tom holder supposed to be soldered on the post? I remember some 20 years ago banging on the tom holder because it would slip and pivot around the post.

-Floor Tom: The floor tom is in pretty bad shape. The bottom bearing edge seems to have been sanded flat on one side, the reinforcement ring has split, and the hole bottom of the drum seems out of round. Is there any way to restore the bearing edge and maybe glue back the reinforcement ring? I am not geared to do it myself, but is it the kind of damage that is repairable in a shop? The WMP finish has also been heavily damaged, this is only cosmetic so not too important to me for now, but one day...

Thanks for the help!! Here are some pictures of the damaged parts.

After reading a bit more on the forums, I think I've identified the wood as the 3 ply mahogany/poplar/maple with re-rings.

Shouldn't be too hard to rustle up a replacement double tom holder on ebay. You could also use a modern replacement as long as it had a 1" down tube and 9.5mm (3/8ths inch) arms. I believe the top part of the holders were a friction fit so if you got a piece of 1" chrome tubing you might be able to repair yours by forcing it back onto the tube.

You are correct that those would probably be made of mahogany, maple, and poplar although once they started applying the granitone interiors they didn't necessarily have to use maple on the interiors so they might be mahogany/poplar/mahogany. The poplar center core is the one constant. You can see the mahogany exterior ply (common to most wrapped 3 ply Ludwigs) under the wrap in the picture of your floor tom.

Didn't notice the claws before, they look like Slingerlands...maybe. Not Ludwigs of any era though.
