I can assure you I had it prior to walking across that stage May of 1980. I picked it up along with a Ludwig cat when I purchased a new cymbal stand. I've still got both of those. They still have the ink marks where I selected my "dream set up" that I was going to buy when I graduated. Just something to think about.
I'lll agree with you there...I got mine new as well....but I'm sure it was in early 81. So its possible its the same catalog, they just issued it earlier and used it for a while.....but I'll have to think no earlier than 1980 then....when did they come out with Brilliants for sure? Anyone??

Honestly, no clues. Not to put too fine of a point on it...when I first saw that at the back of the cat, I thought to myself, "How stupid! Why would a cymbal company use GLASS to coat a cymbal?"
Ahhhh. The ignorance of youth.

I just checked that catalogue out. There's one cymbal in their where the company name in ink is visible. It's the hollow letter type from the 70's. In addition I was able to make out 2 of the trademarks in there, and both were the type without the 3 dots which also indicates 1970's. I don't think they would be using cymbals that were already around 5 years old or more to showcase a brand new catalogue.

You want to talk about stupid?

Ditto for the Platinum and Titanium series. Makes as much sense as glass coating.

ummmm...I was using self-deprecating humor. I was pointing out how stupid I was in my youth. I seriously thought that Zildjian coated the cymbals with glass and called them Brilliant. My ignorance never seems to locate a limit.

Yes I understood what you meant: self-deprecating humor. It shows the humbleness of spirit that allows one the ability to laugh at oneself.

Now self-defecating humor....well that's something else entirely.

I have several of these catalogs that I've received at a Zildjian cymbal clinic that was in Chicago in 1984? which I got to go back stage and get a signature from each artist. I used a different catalog for each signature.
Bernard Purdie, Steve Gadd, Larrie Londin, sorry if mis-spelled, and many others. Don't know if this was a brand new catalog then.

I purchased one of Larry Londin's kits a few years back. I sold off most all of it but kept the high hats. They are SWEET!!! I will hang on to those. The snare went on ebay and the kit is right down the road at a church. Nice kit.

I also have that old one. No Date. I thought I picked that up at the same time as the last little black cymbal set ups of famous drummers book.
