Default Steve Gadd Gary Katz Aja drumming

Steve Gadd did the Steely Dan Aja recording in one take according to Gary Katz who produced the session.

About 6 months later Katz was in NYC doing the final mix down of Aja at one of the recording studios and heard Steve was doing a session down the hall.

He asks Steve to stop in and check out the final mixing.

Steve listens to the recording and asks who the drummer is, cause he is a burning it.
Katz says it's you, to which Gadd said I am a bad motherf@@@ing drummer.

Apparently Gadd was pretty toasted when he did the Aja session.
Wish I could get that kind of toasted.

The ironic part is Becker and Fagen didn't want to use him because his back beat was suspect.

The drumming in that tune was simply amazing and made you just go, "woh, how cool was that!?" And I was a guitar player back then and even I knew that drum part was special!

I think Becker and Fagin were looking for just a basic pop/rock drum part, and they got so much more! Lucky they were!

I was surprised to know Gadd drummed on Rupert Holmes' "Pina Colada" song. Correct me if I'm wrong. But that tune bubbles nicely b/c of Gadd's work.
