Sir, I have been buying, selling and playing vintage drums for decades. This green sparkle, refurbished, recovered drumset is priced at about $12,000-$12,500 more than it is worth. Just because it has the cache of being a duplicate of Bonham's set, doesn't change the fact that it is not original. I have no selfish interest in buying it myself, but I can tell you that the vintage drum community-which is actually quite small-is already hip to this drumset and the price you are asking. If you hook a sucker, more power to you, but I'm afraid you have priced yourself out of the realm of reality. Good luck though.
Did he misrepresent the kit? Why did you bother sending him a message? Sounds like you're trying to pick a fight.

The Lie that struck me most..... "It's My Sons Kit".. Later he describes why HE, (HIMSELF) DOES THIS & THAT.

Think for that money I'd want a head which had both layers intact & maybe even a pedal that was complete...

Cheers

It's VERY likely his wishful thinking about pricing that kit (which he seems to care about more than his son does)....But it IS his business what he does. It doesn't hurt to shake your head in disbelief, but it seems like OP was overly confrontational and then used a reference to the vintage drum community as his backup. But I, personally, don't condone that at all. I am part of the vintage drum community, but not the part that goes to the extent to confront someone over pricing. I think it would have been a better decision to just leave the guy alone and let him do what he thinks is best. It seems like he kinda just wants to show off the kit and talk about it....and himself!

My guess is that he put the kit together as an act of love for his son and also wanted (hoped) to impart his own love of the iconic John Bonham into his son...He went to a lot of effort for it, believing that his son would recognize the love and effort....but now his son would rather have some extra money for his own interests....and, as a result, the dad is pricing the kit based on the hope that no one will buy it and that the son will eventually recognize the representation of love that was put into it for him.

Those early Atlas stands are the most valuable part of the whole package. He could probably get $300 for them if they're free of rust and pitting.

O-Lugs, you make some good points but your statements regarding the OP are incorrect. Just to be fair, member idrum4fun is the OP and he was not overly confrontational nor did he reference the vintage drum community. I believe you may be thinking of another members post.

Obviously, based on the very detailed description, this person and his son spend a lot of time and energy putting this Bonham tribute kit together. So even with the rewrapped shells and modern cymbals it will have a significant value to Bonham fans who want an accurate looking kit, even one that is not legitimately vintage due to the wraps. I'm sure there is a buyer out there with cash who would be willing to spend several thousand dollars to acquire this compromised "complete" kit, even though based on the value of the individual components it is very over priced. However, whether there is someone fanatical or desperate enough to spend $15,000 remains to be seen.

In the end I ignore such silliness. The only eBay transactions I worry about are those where an item is actually misrepresented. That does not appear to be the case here since the issue appears to just be the ridiculously high asking price. A seller can ask whatever he wants, no matter how outrageous. Its really up to the potential buyers to educate themselves and perform due diligence before buying. We can't protect buyers from poor purchase decisions.
Spot on BosLover.

A few points i'll make here one the modern green sparkle wrap isn't even the correct color green that Bonham/ Ludwig played and supplied by the OEM. 2ndly I don't even reply to these type of sellers, they could careless. The market will dictate the end result.

slingerfan!

Thanks for pointing this out. And, yes, I do believe O-Lugs is referring to another member.
