A few years ago the owners did try to upgrade the software, much like that on DFO. But the majority of the people here hated it, did not want to change it. So here we are, all happy right?

I would love to start threads here, I have several Cool projects to share but getting the pictures on here is too much of a hassle. I don't have time to resize pictures.

Okay!, I guess it's time for me to chime in on this! These type threads/posts tend to pop up from time to time, but recently more so, and understandably so! With that said ...

... there have been some very poignant comments here!, as well as the "usual" gripes, and from some more than others. I am on the VDF EVERY DAY in my capacity as admin/mod taking care of the day to day, thread clean ups, edits where applicable, etc. Having been here with David from the start .. ( 15 years! ) .. the VDF has indeed gone through some changes, and mostly based on the changing times/climate. Yes, we did "try" to launch an upgraded version of the VDF a while back, and while it was in the testing phase, we came to realize that the majority of the membership did NOT care for it, even though uploading pics was way easier! So we reverted back to the OEM VDF if you will. Now, more time has gone by and it IS time to upgrade! However ... there's always a however, right? Before that could happen, David got side lined with some personal issues that ended up demanding ALL his time .. thus .. an upgrade was put on hold. Then ... COVID. We all know the result of that ... and it ain't over yet either. SIGH. So ... add both those up, and here we are, still using the original system. David has no interest in getting rid of, or shutting down, the VDF at this juncture. Here's hoping things get back on track for him/family .. and it is looking better all the time I might add .. and we can start to implement some major changes! Both David and I DO greatly APPRECIATE our members, and especially so those stalwarts that keep the VDF chugging along. You know who you are! <smile!> Lastly ...

... regarding WHERE are all the members???!!! Well, as has been mentioned MORE than a few times by myself and others: Today, there are MANY more options for this type of platform: Vintage Drums. Without a doubt, Facebook HAS cut into many forums out there. I am NOT a huge fan of FB by any means, but we have to recognize that it is a major factor. Still, the VDF with it's sharp focus on Vintage Drums STILL gets the visits. Not as many posts as there were even 5 years ago, but STILL very high traffic. Our collected data base of all things vintage drums is massive! Eventually, just about all the questions have been asked, answers given, pictures shared .. but .. that doesn't mean there aren't new things to post! Again, David and I APPRECIATE all of you! Let's see if we can get the VDF up to speed once the dust settles from all that is going on. Continue to visit! Post if you have something to share! This is YOUR forum. BEST!!!

That’s a great post Tommyp.

But as you can see, you posted that at 9:39 this morning and no responses until this one after 3 pm. Your response explained so much and was so informative, you would think someone would have replied before me. At least to wish David well, goodness, which I do! Anyway, I personally look forward to the changes, although they are hard to get used to and normally we hate them at first. Just do it, everyone will adjust. And make it device friendly. I’m also glad to hear you guys have no plans of shutting this site down. I’m not on FB and dont ever plan to be, so I appreciate forums.

Thanks for all you do Tommyp!

JS!
First, THANK YOU for the very kind words! .. and .. you are correct in that there have been no replies 'till yours, but ... there HAVE BEEN 52 views of my post in that amount of time. So ... it was noticed, and we have to suspect, read. Not everyone is going to want to post a reply, and in many cases, certain posts don't really demand one. So ya! ... once a few things clear, we will see what can be done about an upgrade. I hear you on FB!, and there are many guys that feel the same way too. THANKS for the comments Jimmy! BEST!!!

I read all of TommyP's posts. Unless I disagree (rarely) I do not respond. TommyP certainly doesn't need my approval. As to posting traffic, there are other sites with a lot more posting traffic however plenty of it is way off-topic or just general nonsense (which is okay). This site is the gem of the internet for vintage drum and cymbal information in general and Slingerland info in particular.

So what if no one replied for several hours! Cmon people have some patience, we dont need everything on demand. I welcome change and I have a of of respect for Tommy and David and the way they insist that this forum is all about vintage drums and nothing else. There is no better place to learn about vintage drums. I consider all of the people I have met here my friends, real friends not face book friends. Have met some of them in person, all good people! Hats off to Tommy and David for keeping this forum alive!

Love this forum, and as I've said before, I visit pretty much daily, especially since the demise of the Mike Dolbear Forum this side of the pond.

I don't do Facebook and never will.

The USA and MIJ-related topics here have increased my vintage drum knowledge, and a it's great to have such a huge resource of restoration advice to search if needed.

Would love to be able to post pictures more easily though....

I think that some folks who use this forum would appreciate a sub-section for vintage drums made in countries other than the USA and Japan. In general, I am very happy to spend much time in my retirement checking in to read other people's posts and make some posts of my own. I also enjoy the occasional good-natured discussions/arguments and kidding around with each other.

It already exists. Directly below "Vintage Drums" is "Vintage Non USA drums".
