A thing of beauty! Were those Rose Morris drums built by Ayax?

Nice looking kit. I've never seen a Rose Morris kit before, are they British?

Yes british, but made by John Grey, not Ajax.

Some history here:

http://hindleandheely.co.uk/catalog/...history/id/15/

Catalogue here:

The kit is in great shape, no pitting, not many scratches and none severe - only flaking paint on the bassdrum hoops - more due to drying out than heavy use.

Beautiful lugs, T-rods, die-cast hoops - and a very funky wrap!

Yes, thin birch shells with very hefty and flat rerings - flatter than 30 degrees on the inside.

The bassdrum shell has an extra layer of veneer on the to third - to support tom mount and cymbal arm.

These R-Mīs were the successor to the John Grey-brand, so are in most ways the same construction.

The tommount has a ball-and-cup construction that it seems Yamaha could have looked at when they eventually made their system. This one also works a treat. Click on the thumbnail for large version:

The wingnut(s) are very delicate, so only 4 of the 7 are present - only thing missing only the whole kit, that came to me, boxed in the original blue fiber cases, complete with original hardware setup. Pedal, hihat-, snare- and cymbalstand and a seat with no cracks in it.

Obviously, the kit hasnīt seen to much use and has been well cared for, standing in the cases in dry conditions. Quite a find.

Most of my kits are customized Premiers - old kits that I recoat and build up like I like them - but a totally original kit like this has its charm too.
