Hello folks,
I just picked up this drum for short money. Based on a quick look through the old catalogs it appears to be a 1928 or 1929 Ludwig Juvenile snare drum. I grabbed it thinking it might be a decent shell for a modernization project. It's nickel over (some kind of metal). I was thinking about drilling for single point, double ended lugs and possibly trying to find steel or brass hoops for it. Searching around the web it seems that there are not many of these around. Does anyone know anything about these? Are they collectible? Should I leave it as is or is it no big thing to drill away and modernize it? Thanks, https://ibb.co/qm1WtFx https://ibb.co/61RcB0P https://ibb.co/RjMKPG4 |

They are basically collectible toys.. The shells are constructed very similar to the way old coffee cans were put together with a folded and pressed seam.
Perfect ones will sell for $100 on a GREAT day....most go for ~$50 depending on condition. Yours appears to be a 12" shell and thus is missing a tension screw (should have 6) Also, your snare strings and calfskins are gone. These drums are essentially cool decorations for a drummer's man cave (or she shed). Don't alter it is my advice. The thin shell will not accommodate lug tension . The shell would distort for sure. Just enjoy it for its historical and/or decorative value. my 2 cents
