Default Ludwig black beauty 79 / 80 advice

I have just got to the final stages of buying a 79/80 Ludwig black beauty. I’ve been one after these for a while. Could anyone confirm to me that this is the real thing. I have no reason to suspect it isn’t. They are very rare in the UK. What should it worth? Many thanks

Nice 6.514, and pointy badge, nice drum, looks like they go for anywhere between $900-$1200 Canadian ($530-$710 pounds). I can't see that being a fake
How much are they asking?

Looks legit to me, as much as I can tell from the photos.

1200 CDN was mentioned as a high range estimate. That converts to 883 USD I think. I have not seen many of the 6.5" models sell in this range, Usually much higher....when you can even find one!

Yes they look to be fairly rare especially the pointy badge, I saw one add asking $3000+ Canadian.

I'm with K.O. on this, looks legit from the limited photos.

It has the more desirable pointy Blue/Olive badge. I would really check the condition of the drum to help determine the value. It does have a scuff on the badge and I can see that it is exhibiting some of the typical plating issues for BB of this era. Mine has the same problems and is was well taken care of when I played it and has since been stored for better than 35+ years. I'll attach some images for your reference.

These drums can sell for over $2,000 USD depending on condition and badge.

Thanks for the help all. That’s really helped to reassure me. Good that you all have a very similar view. So I agreed a price and the drum is in its way. I will give an update, more photos and price paid when I receive the drum.

I agree with the rest, that drum will sound killer.
I have a 1977 5" version in decent shape and it was used daily.
I bought it new in 77'.
The one you show looks like the throw is bent but should be able to straighten out or replace.
Mine was used so much that the top hoop cracked on me so I replaced it with a diecast ludwig hoop and it's still kicking.

Wayne.
