UFIP ictus 75 TAMPANG gong/cymbal

I bought my very first gong. I found a cool ~24" UFIP gong for sale and brought it home. It's a 4689g heavy beast! According to my research, the holes are factory made. It can be used as a cymbal or as gong. The ictus 75 were produced during a short period arround '75 so this should be a rare cymbal.

If I remember correctly (becoming rarer as I age) the Ictus products were a collaboration between UFIP and a wonderful Italian percussionist named Andrea Centazzo. He tells the story in his book titled "Percussion: New Techniques". I have some of the UFIP ice bells and believe they sound superior to any others I have heard. I think Andrea now lives in California and is very active in drum set, percussion, and electronics. He is well worth checking out. Ciao!

There was a nice article on Andrea in the May 2013 issue of Drum magazine by Gino Robair ("Plugged In - The Hybrid Orchestral Percussionist", page 85). It mentions Andrea working for UFIP in 1974 and 75 and developing the ice bell, Tampang, and Ogororo. His "Percussion: New Techniques" book was printed in 1983. The Ogororo is a group of five small bronze disks, sounding similar to vibraphone bars. Andrea mentions the Tampangs are available in three sizes: 40, 50, 60 centimetres. The Drum magazine article lists ictusrecords.com, andreacentazzo.com, and Facebook. I hope all of that is up to date. Ciao!

Thank you for sharing this. Exactly, the diameter is 60 centimeters. That's why I mentioned aproximately 24". Cheers
