Thumbs up Deri Floor Tom

Just had this awesome floor tom delivered,as part of a deal with some other drums, i believe it's a mid 50's Deri in WMP..
The size is 14.5x20.5 and is a real stunner so thought I would share it with you all..

That's a beauty , Dave . Have a look at this thread http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/show...ht=tromsa.---- I think though, you have a lovely matching floor tom to my Tromsa snare. Here are the parameters. I know the lugs look similar to your Deris but if you look really closely, they are different. Deri would likely have had a combination quick on + adjustable muffler, with an oval collar on the shell, felt pad on a wood base; Tromsa would have a scissors type adjustable muffler, in likely, blue hammered paint( possibly grey), foam pad on a masonite base. Deri would have a Birch shell with Beech re-rings that are wider than deep , Tromsa would have a poplar shell, Beech re-rings that are deeper than wide.Deri would likely have a scarf lapped shell, Tromsa would have a butt lapped shell with a patch. Deri , would have had either square t-rod heads or 9mm slot heads; Tromsa would have 8mm slot heads.
Tromsa, Deri and Trixon all used nickle plated cast aluminum hoops of this type at one point. Both Tromsa and Trixon would have had 8mm slot type rods but at the time Deri was using these type hoops, they were using square head t-rods of a slightly larger size than the standard( 1/4"). Deri switched to slot type rods sometime in the mid to late 50's.

not likely a cocktail drum. Most of the German companies made these extra deep floor toms of various measures and offered them as options. The Trixon catalogues show ( metric sizes but roughly) 14 x 18, 16 x 18 , 20 x 23. I'm not sure about Sonor----I've never seen a really deep Sonor drum. They of course did make cocktail drums too and they used one of the standard shell sizes that they made.

thanks for the great info Phil..definately right about the trixons..seen the combi kit with a 23" floor.
Had a look at your snare and agree the lugs to me match 100%..had another look at my Deri and conclude think you have the right conclusion---a Tromsa!!
Guessing year early to mid 50's what are your views?
Polished up nicely and the wmp looks awesome..going to team it up with my wmp Trixon kit as it is so unusual being in that size...
thanks again mate for the feedback

what i meant was that a W.M.P. Trixon floor tom( long lug) is going to be a long haul to find, so the Tromsa will be a good sub. i assume you are looking for a long lug? i have a very nice tank lug, if you want it .

there should be a pencilled in serial# ---- generally, the first two numbers indicate the year of mfg., unless the drum was made for another company. Lindberg used drums with these types of lugs ----the only Tromsa contract that I know of, so designed. Lindberg drums I have seen have a Lin pencilled inside. They then have a model # and not usually a serial #, so the date is elusive.
