Cool Bronze Strata snare too. That seems to one of the harder Strata finishes to find.

The entire set was there, but the only had painted over it red. I may go back and try to buy it now that I've realized I might actually have the time to work on it.

That P83 isn't original, is it?

If not, it can be shined up and flipped for some nice pocket money.

From what I can tell looking at catalogs of the era, and current listings, the snares came with the P-83, so I think it is original!

Wow, I am SO envious of both of the finds posted in here. That blue sparkle radio king set is the tops. Looks like pretty new heads on the snare too. 10/10 pick up.

The porto pak outfit is stunning. What a find, and as mentioned, only gets that much sweeter with all the extra small parts. That finish looks brand spanking new. Terrific find, would love to see some more pictures.

That is the correct P83 on the Standard snare. They are one of the few drums that came with this particular version. It has the Ludwig Block logo as opposed to most P83s that had a Ludwig Script logo.

First up: A mid 50s Slingerland kit.Pictures here. The set included what seems to be a single ply maple 5.5x14 snare. It also came with a Trans stamp Zildjian crash, a Paiste 404, and a pair of Zilco hats (The original Zilco run) Oh yeah...I forgot to mention it also had an Acrolite! Plus, if you look at the last picture, what seems to be the original order form for the set maybe? Is it possible this set was bought for $727 back in the 50s?

But then today I went to another sale. Picked up 2 snares and a Zildjian swish cymbal from the 50s. Pictures here. If anyone can provide more info on the date of the first snare, that would be awesome. It's 5''x15'' and 8 lugs, which seems to make it the Theatre Model snare. Is there any way to come up with a year based on the stamp/engraving and other characteristics?

It's been a good summer so far (I've had a few other things, but almost immediately sold them to pay for the others). Hopefully I can keep the luck going.
Chrome on top= choice of Chrome or Aluminum, lugs and hoops per catalog scan. Inlaid hoops, ten lugs, size Med ??... I think that's the BD receipt because no strainer is checked off.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I'm definitely going to frame it or laminate it (Probably the former) because I want to preserve it with the kit. Definitely feels like a piece of history to me. I really want to contact the previous owner and ask him the history of the kit. Would love to have that written down to go along with it.

It does make me wonder what the 172, 590, 727 numbers are.
